The System and Applications Supervisor is responsible for lead and manage a team of application’s developers, write programming code, either from scratch or by adapting existing software, for the innovation and advancement of Information Technology (IT) solutions across STRI’s offices, and to make critical contributions to ensuring that the IT Office retains its position as a leading technology innovator.
Major duties and responsibilities:
1.Manage application’s developers in support of new development, maintenance, and research to ensure they provide timely, quality deliverables within budget and exceeding customers’ expectations.
2.Plans, assigns and directs the activities of professional and technical personnel involved in the design, development and systems analysis functions required to create new computer applications programs or install and implement software purchased from outside vendors.
3.Manage and guide the development of finance & accounting applications, manage consulting engagements, customer service and provide support for existing and new IT initiatives.
4.Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
5.Develop and design of database strategies, system monitoring and improving database performance and capacity in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements provided by Smithsonian’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO).
6.Engage in outside-the-box thinking to provide high value-of-service.
Requirements:
1.Bachelor (4-year) degree in Computer Science or a related field, or significant equivalent experience.
2.Minimum of five-year web programming experience on one or more of the following: .NET, AJAX, Drupal, JAVA, Javascript/Jquery, MySQL, PHP, Ruby on Rails, Zend, or other high-level languages;
3.Tree year minimum experience with HTML/XHTML and CSS.
4.Two years minimum Web programming experience, including PHP, ASP or JSP.
5.One-year minimum experience working with relational database systems such as MySQL, MSSQL or good working knowledge of SQL.
6.Development experience using extensible web authoring tools.
7.Experience developing and implementing open source software projects.
8.Experience in finance and accounting applications.
9.Project management skills.
10.Ability to communicate with and relate to a wide range of people fluently in both English and Spanish in a multicultural environment.
