Job Description:
The Cafe - Bar is the heart of our small village where staff, institute students and guests come together. For a delicious brewed coffee at 7am, or in the evening for a cocktail made with the Kalu Yala distilled rum or cassava vodka.
Kalu Yala is looking for a passionate and multi-talented individual to join our team in the jungles of Panama as a full time Cafe - Bar Manager. You will make sure the Cafe-Bar runs smoothly and is giving the best experience to its customers with well-trained cafe & bar staff helping out. You will be in charge of menu design and be in contact with local suppliers. You will create weekly activities for bar nights, and organize events for the bar customers.
Cafe - Bar Manager Responsibilities:
To manage the day-to-day operations and development of a constantly evolving, multifunctional cafe & bar. Your responsibilities include:
Manage the business aspects of the cafe and bar, such as negotiating supplier contracts, taking inventory and reordering supplies, managing budgets, and setting goals.
Administrative management of a cafe and bar (including – but not limited to – stock control, rota’s, ordering, and invoicing).
Management of shifts in the bar, overseeing all bar staff, training bar staff, customer service and operations ensuring that the bar runs smoothly and that excellent service is provided to all visitors.
Working with diverse personalities in staff, institute students and guests.
Maintaining a fun and safe atmosphere for staff, institute students and guests.
To realize the potential for growth of the cafe and bar and ensure its financial success, developing and delivering a long term strategic plan for its development
To ensure an attractive and appetizing menu of drinks, coffee and snacks.
Cafe - Bar Manager Requirements:
(Bar) Management experience (12 months +)
Experience training employees in mixology and customer interaction
Experience evaluating performance and terminating poorly performing team members
Confident communicator, able to remain calm and smile under pressure
Experience with inventory planning and monitoring
Numeracy skills, including experience of cash handling and using electronic till systems
Excel, computer and customer service skills.
Willingness to work during peak hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to diffuse tense situations and resolve conflicts.
Ability to walk, stand, and occasionally carry heavy items in a fast-paced environment.
Experience of leading and motivating a team
Cafe - Bar Manager Preferred Skills:
Barista experience desirable
Spanish Speaker (preferred)
Preferred to be onsite in Panama before April 29th
Benefits:
$550 per month of room and board, including all meals: A space on a shared, open air platform for either a tent and air mattress (provided) or a hammock (must bring yourself) and three farm-to-table fresh meals a day cooked by kitchen.
$600 per month base pay
5% of all revenues from the bar ($150-300/month)
$1,300-1,450 cash + cash equivalent salary per month in a place with near $0 cost of living
