The Smithsonian Institution is seeking an accomplished leader for the role of Director of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI). This position is located in the Republic of Panama, reports to the Under Secretary for Science and Research of the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, and interfaces with a distinguished Advisory Board.

STRI was founded to increase and share knowledge about tropical ecosystems and their relevance to human welfare. The Institute advances basic research to increase the understanding of the past, present, and future of tropical biodiversity through studies in biological sciences, paleontology, anthropology, and archaeology. Its research is shared widely within the scientific community, it reaches policymakers, receives international media attention and is the foundation of educational programs.
