. Position Summary:
Responsible for assisting the homeroom teacher with the implementation of daily instruction, including working with individuals and small groups, organizing materials, and delivering instruction.

Organizational Accountabilities
ISP is committed to the health, safety, and well-being of its students and staff. ISP also expects staff to comply with its policy and procedures that relate to statutory requirements and best practices outlined but not limited to the ISP Staff Handbook. Of particular importance are the policies related to Child Protection and Inclusion and Diversity. Appointees are accountable for completing available training on these matters and ensuring that their knowledge, and the knowledge of their staff, is up to date.

Key Accountabilities
The learning assistant supports an individual homeroom teacher (PK-1st grade) or a team of teachers (2nd-5th grades) in the organization and implementation of daily instruction. The learning assistant works mainly on supporting instructional activities, preparation, and organization of instructional materials, and supervising student behavior during transitions and non-instructional times, such as recess and lunch. The learning assistant assumes tasks as assigned or agreed upon by the homeroom teacher(s).

The duties and responsibilities of the learning assistant are defined in collaboration with the homeroom teacher(s), as well as by taking independent initiative.They include:

Planning and implementing instructions for small groups and providing intervention as needed.
Preparation and organizations of instructional materials needed for daily instruction.
Organization of classroom materials, resources, and equipment as well as maintaining order.
Participating with students during all learning activities, including whole class lessons, meetings, and discussions.
Active supervision and behavior management according to school expectations in the classroom, during transitions, recesses, and mealtimes.
Active support of and participation in instruction, activities, discussions, and Morning Meetings.
Maintaining student records in collaboration with the teacher(s) (classwork, homework, grading, etc.).
Other tasks as assigned by the teacher(s) that are in accordance with school goals and objectives.
Supporting Spanish Teacher during Spanish class.
Leading the class if the homeroom teacher is absent.
Attending faculty meetings and team meetings (according to grade level agreements).
In classwork or duty post ready to work by 7:15 a.m.

Key Selection Criteria and Competencies

Essentials

Education: High School diploma.

Bachelor degree in education preferred.

Experience: Previous experience in working with children preferred.

Core competencies:

Advanced oral and written communication in English.
Spanish language skills are an asset.
Strong interpersonal skills and public relations skills.
Knowledge of conflict management and behavior management approaches.
Ability to take independent initiative.
