The IFRC is a membership organisation established by and comprised of its member National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Along with National Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the IFRC is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (the Movement). The overall aim of the IFRC is “to inspire, encourage, facilitate, and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by National Societies (NSs) with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.” It works to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people before, during and after disasters, health emergencies and other crises. The IFRC is headquartered in Geneva, with regional and country offices throughout the world. The IFRC is led by a Secretary General. The Geneva headquarters provides support to governance mechanisms; sets norms and standards; provides guidance to field offices; ensures consistency, coordination, and accountability for performance; facilitates knowledge sharing; promotes collaboration within and respect for the Movement; and expands engagement with partners. The headquarters is organized in three main divisions: (i) Partnerships, including Movement and Membership; (ii) Programmes and Operations; and (iii) Management. These divisions are led by Under Secretaries General who report directly to the Secretary General, as do all five Regional Directors.
Job PurposeWithin IT Department, the main purpose for the internship is:
Promote collaboration among local universities to create an environment where we can share best IT practices.
Following IT Department guidance collaborate on supporting and promoting the usage of IFRC ICT platforms in order to provide effective tools to IFRC Staff and work closely with them to identify needs in order to make the most of ICT resources.
Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide the opportunity and experience to an engineering student on working on a complex ICT environment in a humanitarian organization atmosphere.
Provide support to Windows 10 upgrade project to Americas Regional office and escalate/follow up with IT Officers.
Participate on Designing and Developing Americas Region Office TeamSite.
Harvest and test any new app available on Office 365.
EducationCurrently pursuing a degree in Computer Science/Electronic Engineering or related
Networking, Microsoft courses and/or certification related - preferred
ExperienceExperience in Information and Communication Technology - Preferred
Experience in cloud systems - Preferred
Knowledge, skills and languagesKnowledge of computers hardware/software and networks.
knowledge on how to troubleshoot computer software and hardware problems.
Ability to adapt to a multicultural environment
