Stanley Black and Decker LAG North comprises business in Mexico, Central Caribbean, Ecuador and Colombia.
The LAG North Controller will work as a member of the Latin America Group (LAG) Business serving as a finance leader responsible on matters pertaining to the accounting, operations and internal controls. The LAG North Controller will report to the LAG Regional Controller.
Overall responsibility comprises of driving the monthly closing process and the day-to-day activities, ensuring timely and accurate recording/processing of transactions in accordance with SBD policies, adherence to the Delegation of Authority (DoA) and compliance with internal controls (SOX). This position will require strong interpersonal communication skills with other functions within SBD (e.g. Commercial Finance, FP&A, Payroll and Legal) as well as Global Shared Service Center Operations (GSS) and Center of Excellence team (CoE).
Responsible for monthly/quarterly closing process by: 1) performing analysis of Balance Sheet/P&L fluctuations vs Past Trends and Forecasts and 2) ensure proper application of SBD Policies related to Revenue Recognition and Cut-offs; 3) assessment of commercial key reserves (e.g. Bad Debt, E&O, Warranties and Rebates) working closely to the Commercial and Order to Cash (OTC) Teams; 4) working closely with the Record To Report (RTR) for issues concerning completeness of journal entries and unvouched expenses; and 5) performing reconciliation of Goods In Transit and Intercompany Balances.
Support LAG & GTS controllership initiatives and projects (Balance Sheet Review and other compliance activities).
Support key system integrations; provide oversight and governance support; facilitate implementation processes.
Monitor and ensure that Reconciliations are timely performed following SBD Calendar and reconciling items are properly cleared in Blackline.
Evaluate processes/controls to improve efficiency (through various techniques such as process streamlining and/or automation) and effectiveness on a continuous basis and develops processes with a keen focus on continuous improvement and standardization across GTS.
Establishment and execution of effective internal controls, including proper maintenance of Segregation of Duties (SoD). As part of this process, he/she will work with internal audit and external audit and other members of the LAG/ GTS Controllership Structure within SBD.
Oversee accounting operations within our shared service center(s) between the Mexico Business and RTR and PTP processes Owners daily.
Monitor and ensure timely identification of accounting issues and work with GTS Controllership and Technical Accounting Group and the relevant business groups to document and ensure proper accounting in accordance with US GAAP and support the implementation of new accounting standards.
Maintain Risks & Opportunities (R&O) report update for discussions with Finance and FP&A Team.
Collaboration with members of the Finance organization and various operating department leaders to execute on projects and problem solve (solution focused).
QUALIFICATIONS
An undergraduate business degree in Accounting.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA). MBA might also be a plus.
10+ years of progressive experience and responsibility with a track record in a Controller in multinational enterprise, preferably in Manufacturing.
Experience managing teams.
Excellent knowledge of US GAAP.
Experience with Sarbanes Oxley and Internal Controls over Financial Reporting.
Experience with accounting systems (SAP) and implementations.
Fluent in English.
