About the Opportunity

The Experience group at DMI helps clients navigate the demands of modern brands -- how to engage with customers to develop strong, lasting relationships. This manifests in marketing, customer experience, and technology needs. Within this group, we have a team of dedicated, curious, and thoughtful user experience designers with creative minds. We are looking to add aSenior UX Designerto join the team in the US, either in the Washington, DC area or remotely.
The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded Interaction Design professional who connects the dots between business needs, innovation, and best-in-class design. Your obsession with human-centered design principles, paired with your passion for product and service design, make you an invaluable resource on our project teams where you’ll collaborate with art directors, content developers, digital strategists, and technical developers to create brand experiences that connect with their audiences. You understand how to promote and use research, quantitative and qualitative, to guide design decisions. You are skilled at driving a user experience from start-to-finish that delivers results, connects emotionally, and makes customers smile again and again. You can work successfully as part of a multidisciplinary team or autonomously and are able to connect with clients to maintain a successful relationship.

Duties and Responsibilities
Lead project design for user experience from discovery and conception, through to design execution, user testing, development and deployment
Liaise with team leads, project managers, strategists, and user interface designers to plan projects
Advocate responsibly and effectively for the end-users who will use the services and products you design
Prepare, facilitate, and debrief workshops internally and with clients
Conduct secondary research such as product assessments, competitor analysis, industry best practice, and trends with highly organized read-outs
Create user experience artefacts such as user journeys, information architectures, user flows, and page architectures
Design varying fidelity wireframes for production, from simple sketching to Figma execution, and provide functional annotations to support development
Conduct co-design workshops internally and with the client to tease out business and user needs and align to project KPIs
Create prototypes to illustrate interaction design concepts for use in user testing
Work with established design patterns and components, while considering opportunities for library expansion
Support the User Experience Director to improve the quality of processes, deliverables, and multi-disciplinary collaboration, and provide a strong presence in the mentorship of junior UX team members
Constructively critique the work of team members
Encourage experimentation and creative exploration within the UX team
Manage your work so that quality work is achieved within time and budget constraints
Form strong partnerships with various internal teammates including:
Strategy teamto participate in qualitative research such as in depth interviews, contextual inquiries, and user testing to derive practical insights
Product ownersto define requirements that align with client goals in order to shape requirements and a deeper understanding of the project's challenges
Design teamto consider opportunities to expand functionality with design enhancements including micro-interactions and animation
Technology teamsto align on creating feasible and highly innovative creative solutions
Content developersin order to ascertain how to best use content to support your experience design
Salesto support new business development including proposals, spec work, and project estimation

Qualifications

Education and Years of Experience:

6+ years experience as a hands-on interaction/visual designer for a UI/UX or product team through the product development cycle of successfully launched web experiences, mobile apps, and software applications.
Degree in Human Computer Interaction, Digital Media Design, Industrial Design, Fine Arts, or a related field is desired.
Experience creatively solving hard problems; delivering innovative and complex product and service solutions within deadlines while partnering with development, testing, program management, design, and research teams.
Expertise with a range of interaction design tools, including Figma, Sketch, and InVision for execution of feature visualization and rapid design prototyping.
Show significant interest in the future of the user experience discipline, and the broader design of human-centered experiences
Collaborative team player who excels in a team environment, but has a strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Successful track record of interacting with clients at senior levels within an organization, leveraging empathy, and using persuasion as a tool.
Equally comfortable working on projects with specific requirements and strict timelines as well as managing ambiguity on projects and identifying ways for clarification.
Experience working across various verticals including ecommerce, travel and hospitality, automotive, and QSR (to name a few!) strongly desired.
Experience designing experiences for those with accessibility requirements.
Demonstrate the ability to think both holistically and in detail when designing the solution to a problem.
Demonstrate your design process and your ability to tailor your process when faced with challenges.
Comfortable articulating the rationale behind your design decisions to internal and external stakeholders.
