Process language data to help build state of the art text-to speech AI models!
Project Summary
Appen is looking for a phonetician or linguist to help process language data for text-to-speech and speech recognition techonlogies. The ideal candidate has experience with phonemic transciption and speech data evaluation and must be a native speaker of US English.
This is an AI Specialist project. Our team’s mission is to deliver the best data solutions and expertise to developers of AI for communication, driven by our passion for innovation and our love of languages.
Estimated Project Duration:6 months, full-time
Responsibilities
Review and produce highly accurate word spelling and phonemic transcriptions
Develop and/or improve transcription guidelines
Evaluate speech data for dialectal variation
Handle data transfers between internal and external tools and curate audio, text, and spectrograms for text-to-speech recording sessions.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A Degree in Linguistics, Speech Science or related field
Experience/interest in linguistics, especially phonology, phonetics, dialectology
Native speaker of US English
Experience/proficiency with transcription systems (such as SAMPA, IPA)
Praat and/or equivalent familiarity with spectrograms
Collaborative and solution oriented attitude
Ability to quickly learn new skills and adapt to a changing environment
Ability to focus on a single task for multiple hours
Strong attention to detail
Communicates clearly verbally and via email
Qualifications and Experience
Advanced degree and/or industry experience
Fluency in two or more natural languages
Location in the San Francisco Bay Area is a bonus
