Job description:

PurposeReporting into the Supervisor Electrical, the Electrician is responsible for the operation, inspection, maintenance and performance of low voltage electrical systems and associated control equipment, including Variable Speed Drives, Motor Control Centers and cables, and under the direction of a qualified person, operate, inspect, maintain and improve the performance of medium and high voltage electrical systems and associated equipment.
Key Accountabilities and Challenges

· Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
· Work to standard safe working procedures and actively participate in HSE initiatives.
· Carry out formal workplace inspections on a routine basis.
· Ensure work is undertaken in compliance with H&S (e.g. isolation, lock out and tag out), quality and environmental standards and procedures.
· Execute daily corrective actions as directed.
· Ensure housekeeping is executed in all designated work areas.
· Provide input for the creation and implementing SOP’s.
· Identify, report, eliminate, mitigate and/or control any electrical safety condition.
· Use electrically safe work Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best industry practices.
· Use industry best practices for Lock Out Tag Out safe procedures;
· Read and understand electrical drawings, schematics, single line diagrams, and any other vendor supplied technical information, included but not limited to installation, operation and maintenance manuals.
· Assist and/or troubleshoot and repair overhead and underground distribution systems, including transformers, circuit interrupters, reclosers, capacitors, voltage regulators, medium voltage switches, utility poles, terminations, and supporting hardware.
· Assist and/or install, maintain and repair electrical components including but not limited to duct banks, cable runs, risers, transformers, and low voltage electrical panels.
· Assist and/or operate various components on the medium and high voltage distribution electrical system including isolation switches, interrupters, capacitor banks, transformers, Variable Speed Drives, switchgears, motor control centers, overhead fused cut outs, and voltage regulators.
· Assist and/or isolate and clear sections of the system for maintenance, installation and load shedding.
· Under supervision, serve as high voltage medium voltage and low voltage crews and helpers assigned to a specific job.
· Use personal protective gear such as hot sticks, arc flash resistant apparel, respiratory protection, and places or erects clearance tags, barricades, warning signs and devices to protect others from electrical hazards such as arch flash.
· Assist and/or operate a variety of testing, calibration and repair devices, tools and equipment including voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, insulation resistance testers, high potential test sets, circuit breaker testers, etc.
· Undertake nominated training activities to maintain and up-skill required competencies.
· Keep records to ensure that they are satisfactory for internal audits.

· Act as deputy for colleagues as required.
· Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience

·Education

· A vocational or technical school level degree, recognised by JTIA at general electrician level.
·Skills

· Good communication and interpersonal skills.
· Excellent cognitive and analytical skills for identifying maintenance corrective and preventative actions.
· Proven ability to identify, analyse and understand electrical requirements.
· Strong understanding of maintenance improvement and control strategies.
· Strong understanding of technical, production and maintenance strategies for large-scale, continuous operating mineral processing plants;
· Good verbal and written communication skills to provide clear and accurate reports in both an upward and downward direction;
· Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
·Experience

· 2 years of experience in industrial, distribution, and/or generation electrical systems.
· Practical experience with National Regulations (NFPA 70) and best industry practices including NEC, IEEE, and NFPA70E standards.
· Good knowledge of electrical theory and terminology and the mathematics/basic algebra used in electrical calculations.
· Experience in switchgear, medium voltage VSD and gearless drives will be an advantage.
· Knowledge of the programming of logic controllers, protection relays, VSD’s and Circuit Breaker relays will be an advantage.
·Language

Fluency in Spanish is required and proficiency in English highly regarded.

Working Conditions

Cobre Panama is a remote site. The position is offered as Residential or BIBO.
Work hours and rosters may vary as required by the business.
