Job description: Purpose To ensure the organization complies with current health and safety legislation approved codes of practice and guidance in relation to health and safety as well as work proactively with other managers to establish and maintain a system that promotes a culture of safe working practices across the organization. Key Accountabilities and Challenges - To ensure the day-to-day management of safety issues are addressed with the Senior Safety Advisers / Superintendent. - Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama. - Interact with all Safety Advisers and assist in implementation of Safety and Health Standards in line with Corporate strategy and annual business plans. - Review, design and implement systems for the management and administration of the safety management system - Design, Create and Implement a series of clear Key Performance Indicators to report on the performance of site safety and the safety team - Support the organizational culture of FQM (Bolder, Driven, Smarter, Together) and actively promote it’s translation in terms of safety related activity - Ensure established company health, safety policies and procedures are upheld - Chair and conduct monthly SHE representative meeting on a monthly basis. (when required) - Ensure the safety management system My Compliance is appropriately administered, that errors are minimized and that the structure is designed to ensure efficient reporting. - Ensure all safety personnel are expert in the administration of incidents through My Compliance - Ensure an effective means of reporting Incidents to the relevant safety teams is in place to ensure the efficient closure of Incidents and implementation of corrective actions - Provide appropriate tools to the safety team to ensure all Hazards are identified and actioned on My Compliance and close outs are complete. - Conduct informal daily and formal weekly safety meetings with all areas within the scope of the Site, and ensure workplace matrix is up to date. - Compile daily safety reports and ensure all close outs are closed. - Excellent written and oral communications skills Skills, Knowledge & Experience Education - Tertiary qualification in Health and Safety or equivalent. - Skilled knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and application in a mining environment. - Extensive knowledge of effective health and safety management strategies and best practices - Registered with IDONEDAD - Safety Officers accredit certificate through an international recognized institution Skills - Good leadership, presentation and motivational skills. - Good negotiating skills. - Excellent knowledge, understanding and application of industry best practice Health and Safety strategies for large-scale, continuous operational mining activities. - Excellent cognitive and analytical skills with understanding of Health and Safety process improvement and incident control strategies. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and able to assemble data and provide clear and accurate reports in both an upward and downward direction. - Excellent project management and interpersonal skills. - Ability to work in a multicultural environment. - Strong computers skills especially MS Office. - Experience - Minimum of 4 years safety experience within the Mining / Processing industry. - Knowledge of OH&S systems, including OSHSAS 18001 and preferably OSHSAS 45001system - Experience in safety investigations and auditing - Must have valid Panamanian driving licence. - Must be computer literate Language - Fluency in Spanish & English highly regarded.
